Our History

In 1985, founder Anthony J. Stillson, jazz pianist, and architect gave AJ's its artistic roots and name. AJ's has proudly boasted the title of the longest-running restaurant on the island under the same management for many years until recently when AJ's daughters, Lisa and April decided to pass the torch on to Meridith and Joshua Ranck in the Spring of 2021.

Sisters Lisa Smith and April Stillson offered extraordinary hospitality that kept guests coming back year after year.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the sisters have become intertwined with Chincoteague culture. Coincidentally, the Rancks are also from Pennsylvania. The family fell in love with Chincoteague when vacationing with their young daughters, and they are thankful to be continuing the legacy that Lisa and April have beautifully carried, fine dining with the charm only Chincoteague can bring.

We invite you to dine outside by the creek, while savoring the fresh salt air. It is an experience unique to the Island, and one you will not want to miss!

The AJ's team is committed to bringing you the best the island has to offer, in service and in fare.

Our historic seafood recipes have been passed down from generation to generation, and seafood is our specialty.
